Sherry Spanza - Trainer
Sherry grew up in Vancouver, BC as a horse lover stuck in a city with very few horses. She took English riding lessons for two years at a local equestrian centre where she learned Equitation and Jumping, until her schedule became too busy. When she was 18 she decided that she needed to get back in the industry, so she worked at a few different stables gaining more and more knowledge and a bigger passion for the four legged animal.
After a couple years of doing this, her mother found an ad for a Horse Starting program at the NAIT-Fairview Campus in Northern Alberta. There she learned about western riding, starting a horse, nutrition, health and diseases, breeding, business management, stable management, and event planning. So she got her certificate in horse training for the 2005/2006 year. After completing the program she had to do a 6-week work experience where she was fortunate enough to meet Nettie Barr, Owner of Canadian Natural Horsemanship. Sherry learned a completely different way of training called Natural Horsemanship. There, she helped train three client horses, which included one of her favourites, Kahlua, who had no confidence and low self-esteem. She also assisted with the training of ground manners for a stud colt and starting an older gelding. In the summer of 2006, Sherry had 5 horses that she was training. Three of which had never been touched in four years, one was a 4 year old gelding that liked to test her everyday, and then the fifth was a gelding that had some behavioral issues that no other trainer wanted to touch.
Now with the diversity of both the traditional ways of training and the new way of training, Sherry has gained experience to handle any type of horse. Whether it is a horse with behavioral issues, rearing, bucking, trauma or you just want to start a horse and gain a new friend. With the use of body language and a lot of patience Sherry can help you get through to any horse as they are just waiting to get through to you.
